Why human structures function

Trust. One word. Trust.

I'm sick with the flu, so I'm sitting at home watching people outside go about their daily business - wives going to work / shopping, children to school, gardening services starting their daily pruning / mowing / etc. and I'm sitting here thinking, why?

The why is easy - someone told them to, someone expects / requires it of them, a myriad of other reasons, but the end requirement is the same - a chain of expectation. The real trick here for me is the how - how does this happen seamlessly, regularly, constantly?

This is where trust comes into it for me - the trust that an owner has that his gardening employees will mow those lawns, that trust a husband has that his wife will co-earn an income / go shopping for necessities / take the kids to school(and vice versa), the trust that a home owner has in the person cleaning / managing their home. The trust that a company has in their employees performing their assigned roles.

Trust allows, nay forces us, not to look over someone's shoulder, but gives us the freedom to let them be trustworthy while showing ourselves to be trustworthy. It makes for a much better productivity generator than fear / supervision. It allows people to grow, achieve self-worth, it allows the wheels to spin.

Trust - what a wonderful concept - let's show ourselves first, and then others, that we are trustworthy and that they too can be trustworthy.
